A/Prof Fong also achieved the Board of Examiner’s Prize (Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) and a letter of commendation from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists culminating in his postgraduate degrees.
Through his interactions with patients, A/Prof Fong developed a keen interest and passion for endometriosis and uterine fibroids– both conditions that cause many women to suffer in silence.
A/Prof Fong’s research into these conditions piqued his interest in them and eventually led to him spearheading the development of various dedicated services catering to women with these conditions – an outpatient hysteroscopy service which works to “see and treat'' uterine problems such as polyps, adhesions, and fibroids, and the Endometriosis Centre concept which involves integrating urological, colorectal, pain management, and women’s emotional health services, together with the early diagnosis of endometriosis.
Touched by the plight of many who suffered a delay in the diagnosis of Endometriosis, he founded the Endometriosis Awareness Campaign in 2012 to raise awareness among both doctors and the general public.
His experience and passion for empowering women form the basis of these centres, services, and programmes which cater to women suffering from complicated endometriosis, uterine fibroids and chronic pelvic pain.
A/Prof Fong's compassion and care for his patients also drove him to develop endometriosis mapping – a concept that uses non-invasive ultrasound scans for the early diagnosis of endometriosis and to understand the severity of endometriosis.
He is the first physician in Singapore to offer endometriosis mapping through transvaginal ultrasound and has been successful in the assessment and staging of endometriosis in his patients to guide treatment plans.
With a wealth of knowledge, experience, and unwavering care for his patients, A/Prof Fong hopes to provide unrivalled treatment and services while paving the way for women suffering from endometriosis and uterine fibroids to get the treatment they need so that they can live life like those without these conditions.
